Questions we often get asked before a treatment.
Is it supposed to hurt?
Do I have to wear my underwear?
At Willow we prefer that all our clients wear their underwear. We drape the towels over the body and tuck it in around the underwear. We use this as a marker for some of the moves we do to prevent us going to high and hitting arteries and lymph vessels etc.
Am I too fat for a massage?
Sometimes I can’t believe people ask me this! Massage therapy is luxurious
treatment no matter what size you are. Your muscles can be worked through a large number of layers. (To be blunt it does become slightly more difficult when you get to the morbidly obese level) but up to that point we can work on all shapes and sizes. Although I probably shouldn’t tell you this but massage therapists love it when you’re a bit heavier. It’s comfortable on our hands.
How will I feel after my treatment?
Massage therapy can have a number of different effects. It can make you feel nice and relaxed, or invigorated and energised! When your muscles are tight they take more energy to move, so after a massage you should feel lighter and have more energy.
You can feel light headed after a treatment, this is normal. It means during your treatment your blood pressure has dropped slightly. Drinking water should help with this.
Do I need to shave my legs?
Please do not shave your legs before coming to a massage appointment! When massaging legs that have just been shaved it is like massaging sandpaper. We have seen people of all shapes and sizes, so if you have leg hair it will not bother us in the slightest.
